How this tool works
Enter your customer’s or supplier’s VAT number including country code. Click Check VIES for free to check it with the European Commission through our server. You see registration status, the time of the check, and any name and address supplied by the country concerned. Nothing is sent while you type.
Common questions
Is the number actually checked with VIES?
Yes. After you click, we request the result directly from the official VIES service. If the service is unavailable, we say so separately. An outage does not mean your VAT number is invalid. Name and address are shown only when supplied by the country; an address may be protected.
Can I search for a VAT number by company name?
No. You need to have the number already. Ask your customer or supplier for it if it is missing.
