How this tool works
An employee costs more than gross salary alone. This tool adds the included employer contributions and holiday allowance. Use the result as a starting budget and add actual pension, collective agreement, absence, insurance and other employment costs yourself.
Payroll calculator Netherlands
This payroll calculator for the Netherlands budgets twelve gross salary payments, 8% holiday allowance, contributions, employer pension and other costs you enter. Average monthly cost equals the annual total divided by twelve and may differ from any individual payroll month.
AWf, Aof, Whk and Zvw explained
AWf funds unemployment insurance; select the low or high rate based on the contract. Aof funds disability insurance and depends partly on employer size. Whk varies by employer, so use your official assessment. The employer Zvw levy contributes to healthcare. Annual contribution ceilings apply, including holiday allowance.
What does an employee earning €4,000 gross cost?
At €4,000 gross per month, annual salary is €48,000 and holiday allowance is €3,840. The combined base is €51,840 before any adjustments. Add employer contributions and the pension and other costs you specify. Enter €4,000 above to see the full breakdown for your AWf, Aof and Whk settings.
Pension and total employer costs
Enter the employer pension contribution rather than the employee deduction. Recruitment, occupational health services, equipment, insurance and training can be included in other costs. The tool treats these as a monthly budget amount and does not automatically treat them as taxable wages.
Common questions
Are these my complete staff costs?
No. The tool uses an indicative contribution model. Actual Whk, pension, collective agreements, insurance, equipment and absence costs can differ or be excluded.
Why does the tool ask whether the employer is small or large?
The calculation uses that classification for the included employer contributions. Select the applicable category and check your actual contribution rates.
What percentage are Dutch employer costs?
There is no universal percentage. Contract, employer size, Whk, contribution ceilings, pension and other costs determine the additional amount. Review your input breakdown.
Is pension included automatically?
Only the employer amount you enter. The tool does not know your pension scheme or franchise and does not calculate premiums from a specific collective agreement.
