How this tool works
Enter gross monthly pay and settings matching your employment. The tool uses payroll tax tables for a regular month. Actual take-home pay may differ because of pension deductions, other deductions or reimbursements outside this model.
Dutch tax calculator: gross to net
Net monthly salary = gross monthly salary − payroll withholding
This Dutch tax calculator estimates gross to net salary in the Netherlands using the 2026 monthly payroll table. Payroll tax credit changes the withholding. Annual regular take-home pay assumes twelve identical months. Employee pension deductions, individual supplements and tax-free reimbursements are not automatically included.
30% ruling: 2026 rules and the 2027 transition
For 2026 the maximum exemption is 30%, capped at €78,600 for a full year. You need a valid ruling and sufficient taxable salary: more than €48,013 under the regular threshold, or €36,497 for qualifying graduates under 30. The announced 2027 transition depends on the first year of use: by 2023 retains 30% and the existing threshold; 2024 changes to 27% with the existing threshold; from 2025 changes to 27% and a higher threshold. Salary thresholds are indexed.
Holiday allowance and 13th month
Holiday allowance is shown separately from regular monthly pay. At €3,500 per month, 8% over twelve months gives €3,360 gross. A thirteenth month is an extra payment: select special-payment mode or open the dedicated calculator. Withholding uses the annual wage for special payments.
Part-time salary
Enter the gross salary for your actual contracted hours. The hours field calculates the corresponding hourly pay; it does not silently reduce a full-time salary. For example, €4,000 for 40 hours becomes €3,200 for 32 hours if all components scale proportionally.
What your employer pays
Employer contributions are paid on top of gross salary. Use the employer-cost calculator for an annual budget including holiday allowance, AWf, Aof, Whk, Zvw, pension and other costs. It shows the selected contribution bases and cost per contracted hour.
Net bonus and year-end payment
The special-payment table accounts for tax credits increasing or decreasing with income. Withholding may therefore exceed what a single income-tax bracket suggests. It is an advance withholding, not a separate bonus tax. The result appears when you enter the extra payment and applicable annual wage.
Common questions
Why does this differ from my payslip?
First compare the same taxable gross pay and payroll tax credit. Pension, collective agreement supplements, reimbursements, special payments and other deductions may explain the difference.
Can I simply enable the 30% ruling?
Only if it applies to you. The switch calculates the scenario; it does not check eligibility.
What are the Dutch tax brackets for 2026?
For residents below state pension age throughout 2026: 35.75% up to €38,883, 37.56% above that through €78,426, and 49.50% above €78,426. Tax credits affect the final amount.
What is the difference between payroll tax and income tax?
Payroll withholding is deducted by the employer. Income tax considers your total annual income and personal circumstances, then credits payroll tax already withheld.
What is the general tax credit?
This credit reduces calculated tax and depends on income and personal circumstances. With multiple employers, do not apply payroll tax credit at each without checking.
When do I need to file a tax return?
File when invited and follow the stated deadline. Filing can also be required or beneficial without an invitation. Immigration or emigration involves specific return rules.
