How this tool works

Social insurance wage is the wage used for employee insurance. It is not always equal to the gross or net amount printed on a payslip. This calculator shows how common wage components relate and estimates a daily wage. You can also enter the actual insurance wage recorded for the reference period. That is preferable to an estimate based on twelve identical months.

Spot SV-loon · fictional monthly example
Gross cash salary
€ 3.500,00
Taxable company-car benefit
+ € 500,00
Deductible pension contribution
− € 150,00
Loon werknemersverzekeringen (SV-loon)
€ 3.850,00

Find this wage base on your own payslip. This simplified example excludes other pay components and is not an official payslip.

Gross is pay before deductions. Taxable pay is the payroll-tax base; SV-loon is the employee-insurance base. They match in this example, but check your own payslip. Net pay is the payment after deductions and any reimbursements.

Where is SV-loon on a Dutch payslip?

Look for sv-loon, svw-loon or loon werknemersverzekeringen. Some payslips use loon SV or a taxable wage base. Do not copy the net amount paid when unsure: check your registered wage data in Mijn UWV or ask payroll which line applies to your situation.

Choose whether to estimate from pay components or use the sv-loon you already have for the reference period. A monthly payslip amount is not automatically the right annual amount for a UWV daily wage.

What is social insurance wage?

Insurance wage = gross pay + insured supplements + taxable car benefit − deductible pension

In this model, regular insurance wage is gross monthly pay plus taxable insured supplements, less deductible employee pension contributions. Do not add tax-free travel costs or other exempt reimbursements. The taxable benefit for private use of a company car is included in insurance wage; enter the amount after an eligible own contribution. Check the separate wage bases on your payslip before copying the amounts.

Estimating daily wage using the UWV formula

Estimated daily wage = reference-period insurance wage ÷ daily-wage days

For a complete reference year, UWV generally divides insurance wage by 261 daily-wage days. That is not your personal number of days worked. Part-time work therefore does not automatically mean dividing by fewer days. Changing the day count only makes sense when the applicable UWV rules require it. This calculator does not determine those rules or the reference period from your employment history.

Holiday pay and special payments

The annual estimate includes twelve regular monthly amounts plus the annual holiday pay and special payments you enter. Enter those extras only once. If you copy actual insurance wage from Mijn UWV or payroll records, it replaces the estimate used for daily wage. The result explicitly identifies which reference amount was used so you can check the calculation.

What does daily wage tell me about benefits?

Daily wage is a calculation base, not a benefit entitlement. Benefit type, the statutory daily maximum, periods without wages, illness and changes during the reference period can affect the official calculation. This tool does not apply the daily maximum or determine eligibility for WW, WIA or other benefits. Use the PDF to explain your figures and check the official determination with UWV.

Common questions

Where can I find my insurance wage?

Look for sv-loon, loon werknemersverzekeringen or loon SV on your payslip. Registered wage data can also be checked in Mijn UWV.

Is insurance wage the same as gross pay?

Not always. Deductible pension and treatment of supplements or reimbursements can change the base. Net pay is a different amount again.

Why does UWV divide by 261?

This is the average daily-wage day count for a full reference year. Some situations have different rules; fewer part-time working days do not automatically reduce the divisor.

Does the company car benefit count?

Yes. UWV includes the taxable company-car private-use benefit in sv-loon. Use the taxable benefit after an eligible employee contribution. It is a benefit in kind, not extra cash pay.
