Prepare for financing
Applying for business finance: which figures should you prepare?
A clear finance application connects your plan to the amount requested. The reader should understand what you will buy, how much funding is needed and how the business can meet the new commitments. A consistent file structure helps expose missing or conflicting information.
Give each document a clear purpose
Start with a short description of the plan. State the current position, intended change and amount requested. Group figures by purpose: actual performance, planned investment, expected results and payment dates. Number the supporting documents and use the same business name and reference date throughout.
Do not automatically send every export you have. A lender may specify periods or file formats. List each requested item with an owner, status and date. Label interim figures as interim, even if the PDF looks polished.
Worked example: from spending plan to funding request
In this fictional plan, a business sets aside €24,000 for a machine, €9,000 for stock and €7,000 for the initial operating period. Total funding need is €40,000. With €15,000 contributed by the owner, €25,000 remains to be funded externally. Separately check whether quotations, payment terms and VAT prefinancing are reflected in the amounts.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Machine | €24,000 |
| Stock | €9,000 |
| Initial operating period | €7,000 |
| Total need | €40,000 |
| Owner contribution | €15,000 |
| Remaining funding | €25,000 |
Check that the documents agree
A new machine can increase capacity, but revenue only rises if that capacity is sold. Connect the investment to orders or a supported sales estimate. Include maintenance, insurance, additional staff and financing costs where relevant.
Finally, check that the requested loan matches the financing budget and that repayments appear in the cash schedule. Use a forecast start month consistent with the plan’s implementation. Keep a copy of the submitted documents so changes made during discussions remain traceable.
Common questions
Which documents are always mandatory?
There is no universal list for every financing type and provider. Obtain the list for your application. Historical figures, current bank information and budgets serve different purposes.
Does Rekenbox submit the finance application?
No. You create a calculation or report and choose who receives it. Rekenbox does not arrange a loan, assess credit or automatically send information to a bank.
