      How this tool works

Margin divides profit by selling price; markup divides the same profit by cost. This is why the percentages differ. Use amounts excluding VAT and include the costs you want your price to recover.

      Common questions

Why is my markup higher than my margin?

For a profitable sale, cost is lower than selling price. Dividing the same profit by a smaller base gives a higher percentage.

      Is this my net profit?

Only the cost you enter is deducted. Overheads, income tax and other costs are not automatically included.
