Annual figures for finance: what does your overview show?

Historical figures show what is already recorded in the accounts. That is different from predicting next year. A financial overview brings income, costs, monthly figures and accounts together; label the period and the status of the data precisely.

An overview is not automatically a set of financial statements

Ask what the recipient means by annual figures. The request may range from a current internal overview to final financial statements with notes. An accounting export may still contain provisional entries. Naming the PDF does not change their status.

The Rekenbox financial overview organises the source data you provide. It shows monthly income, costs and profit, income-statement account classifications and ledger balances with opening amounts and movements. It does not add an accountant’s report, accounting policies or missing year-end entries.

Example: label an interim result correctly

Suppose the export covers January through June with €96,000 income and €72,000 costs. Profit for those six months is €24,000. It is not actual annual profit of €48,000. Doubling it would be a separate forecast with its own assumptions about the second half.

Reconcile before sharing

Compare totals with the equivalent report in the accounting software. Check dates, selected accounts, opening balances and closing entries. Two reports may differ because they include different periods or entries. Correct the source or explain the difference; do not simply adjust the final amount.

Keep the source export and a brief note on completeness alongside the PDF. For example, state the month through which purchase invoices and bank entries have been processed. Share only what the recipient needs. The separate source export contains more detail than the summary.

Common questions

Can I call this statutory financial statements?

The Rekenbox overview summarises the accounts you supply. It is not automatically prepared statutory financial statements and contains no accountant’s assurance. Describe it according to its contents and the recipient’s request.

Can I use the same figures for a forecast afterwards?

Yes, if the export is suitable for the forecast maker. Review whether the reference months are representative and which accounts to include. Historical figures and future expectations remain separate reports.
